History Club

The Elkins Middle School History Club is a club for all EMS students interested in further exploration of their education in history and social studies. Topics will include those that go beyond what is typically covered in class. The purpose of this club is to foster interest in major issues concerning our world throughout the past and present. In this club we will have discussions about various topics of interest, conduct debates, watch historical documentaries, and participate in other activities. Possible topics of discussion for the 2022-2023 school year include: human rights, epidemics, United States diplomacy, American architecture, piracy, decolonization of Africa, British Imperialism, and other topics including those suggested by student member
Creative Writing Club

Creative Writing Club is place where writers come together to compose and create. Feel free to bring your own stories, poems, plays, or any other piece of writing you are working on to share with the group! You can work on your own writing projects, or write in response to a prompt or exercise. Students will have the opportunity to submit their writing to a number of local, state, and national writing contests, if they choose do so. Writers of all ages and abilities are welcome!
Yoga Club

In our club, we will learn basic and fun yoga poses, yoga breathing techniques and the importance of this practice to help us feel good. We often have talented guest instructors and will explore virtual yoga options. Just doing yoga a few minutes a day can have health benefits AND make us look AND feel better! No experience necessary. Yoga is right for everybody! $10 fee is suggested to cover the club T-shirt, if the student can pay.

Students must be tech savvy and comfortable taking photographs. Responsibility is key and be able to travel to games/meets and make deadlines. Confidence to ask to take pictures and go “backstage” of an event to get team and candid pictures.
RAZE

We are RAZE. And our mission is clear. We’re putting everything we’ve got into tearing down the lies of Big Tobacco in West Virginia.Tobacco has taken over our state. And now is our time to take it back. We can be the generation of West Virginians that create a serious rebellion against big tobacco and make a real change.
Open to 6th 7th and 8th Graders

This club is designed for those who love to play the game of chess. We will play many chess games during the year. Basic knowledge of the game is not required but is highly encouraged. Good sportsmanship is a must. No bad chess manners or lack of respect for opponents will be tolerated. By year’s end your chess skills will improve. The year’s club activity will culminate with a tournament
EMS Make It Shine Club

Description: EMS Make It Shine Club is an extension of the Elkins Make It Shine project. Students will give input on ways to improve the appearance of the school & implement their suggestions. Students will assist in cleaning and improving school grounds, both inside of the school & outside of the school.
Football Film Club

In this club you will watch high school football film, learn how to watch Hudl film, and ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries.
Hi-Y
Advisors: Mr. Baker and Mrs.Harris
Room: Band Room
EMS Hi-Y is a school and community service organization. The club participates/helps with school/community events throughout the year. The Shadow program is part of Hi-Y.
Students must:
1. Complete an application form (see Mr. Baker or the main office.)
2. Write an essay about why they want to be a member. Not a sentence!
3. Pay a $5.00 non-refundable fee. Checks made to EMS Hi-Y
4. Turn in all items by the return date.
5. If selected for the club, maintain the following requirements:
To stay in the club members must maintain a 2.5 grade average, attend 75% of the meetings and participate in 50% of the service projects (most projects are NOT on school time). Any infraction of school rules that the advisors consider inappropriate, “extreme” or assignment to ISS or OSS will result in expulsion from the club.
“Shadow” is part of Hi-Y. Only Hi-Y members can apply for “Shadow”. “Shadow” members must complete an application, write an essay, maintain a 3.0 grade point average, have good attendance, and maintain unquestionable conduct and citizenship.
There is a cap of 50 members for Hi-Y. Forms must be turned in by the return date on the application form.
Art Club

If you are an artist or just enjoy art, this club is for you. It does not matter if you like realistic drawing, painting, origami, anime or weaving. All artists and art enthusiasts are welcome. Art club is a club where we make small art projects for ourselves and larger long-term art projects for the school and community. In art club you will improve and expand your personal art skills, abilities, and knowledge. Our group projects will allow you to contribute your skills to improving our community through art. In art club we use a range of art styles to create things like murals, origami, photobooth props and window displays in downtown Elkins. If this sounds interesting to you, join us.
Fan Fiction Club

Do you like to write? Do you love writing about your favorite fictional characters from books and movies? Do you just want to write in general? Then this club is perfect as a creative outlet. You can draw inspiration from whatever you love and compose complete short stories (or start your own novel!). I will provide guidance and exercises to help you improve your writing. We will read and discuss examples of fan fiction from famous writers (and the not-so-famous). You can write using a notebook or your Chromebook, whichever you prefer.

This club will allow students to complete a new craft each month. Crafts will include: snow globe tumblers, resin art, fleece blankets, flower pots, coasters, shirts, pens, and more. In order to help cover costs of some of the items, we are asking that students bring a donation of $10.
Farm Fresh Club

Students will learn and discuss topics related to small farming. From planting seeds to proper care of animals. Students will also attempt growing seedlings and learn to do other things related to a farm. Both from Me and through peer guidance.

Come and join in on this faith-based club to play unbelievable group games such as AIR
MATTES RELAY and TORPEDO and to enjoy amazing social relationships with people who really
care about you! This club can lead you to a whole new level of excitement at EMS!! This is
a club you just have to experience for yourself; it is too fast-paced, fun-driven, and beyond
imagination to explain. Wyldlife Club sponsors the monthly "Wyldnights" as well
as Wyldlife winter weekend.

If you want to have fun with your friends, are a creative thinker, or if you can see yourself becoming involved in this industry someday, then this is the place for you! Club activities include the following: Sharing and reading comic books or graphic novels Drawing comic book characters Inventing new superheroes and comic book characters Writing story lines for comic books Using technology to read comic books or create characters Watching video clips and movies featuring comic book characters Just come and give it a try
