Chess Club

This club is designed for those who love to play the game of chess. We will play many chess games during the year. Basic knowledge of the game is not required but is highly encouraged. Good sportsmanship is a must. No bad chess manners or lack of respect for opponents will be tolerated. By year’s end your chess skills will improve. The year’s club activity will culminate with a tournament
Guitar Club

Join the Guitar Club!!! Club sponsors are Ms. Townsend and Mr. Haddix. We will be learning chord progressions, and you will be able to play a song in no time. We will have a GREAT time. Guitars will be provided.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes

It is a club allowing student athletes to learn positive " religious" values. The club will discuss ways to help deal with the stress that can come with playing sports. How to deal with negative comments from other students and fans. Finally, the club will teach students how to apply Christian attributes to themselves on and off the field. This club is geared toward athletic scenarios and Athletes.

Fan Fiction Club

Do you like to write? Do you love writing about your favorite fictional characters from books and movies? Do you just want to write in general? Then this club is perfect as a creative outlet. You can draw inspiration from whatever you love and compose complete short stories (or start your own novel!). I will provide guidance and exercises to help you improve your writing. We will read and discuss examples of fan fiction from famous writers (and the not-so-famous). You can write using a notebook or your Chromebook, whichever you prefer.
Wyldlife Club

Come and join in on this faith-based club to play unbelievable group games such as AIR MATTESS RELAY and TORPEDO and to enjoy amazing social relationships with people who really care about you! This club can lead you to a whole new level of excitement at EMS!! This is a club you just have to experience for yourself; it is too fast-paced, fun-driven, and beyond imagination to explain. Wyldlife Club sponsors the monthly "Wyldnights" as well as Wyldlife winter weekend and the Wyldlife Stupendous Summer Camp (after which you will never be the same!!)

And now is our time to take it back. We can be the generation of West Virginians that create a serious rebellion against big tobacco and make a real change.

This book Club offers students the opportunity to read and discuss books that the club will be voting on, whether it be fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, mystery, etc. Discussions are informal and largely student led. This is not meant to be homework but a time to take a break from normal assignments and just enjoy a good book.

World Geography Club

In the World Geography Club students will participate in mock bees, play interactive games, and learn about different countries. This club can help students master mental maps from around the world using mnemonics and games. The club will use tools such as Google Earth to learn about the world. Members will also create posters about different countries and cultures and present them to the rest of the club.

This club will allow students to complete a new craft each month. Crafts will include: snow globe tumblers, resin art, fleece blankets, flower pots, coasters, shirts, pens, and more. In order to help cover costs of some of the items, we are asking that students bring a donation of $10.

Students can bring their own board games and/or card games and play with a group of people. I will also provide some board and card games. I will give students the option of either playing a game that they already know how to play or learning a new game from me.

In our club, we will learn basic and fun yoga poses, yoga breathing techniques and the importance of this practice to help us feel good. Just doing yoga a few minutes a day can have health benefits AND make us look AND feel better! No experience necessary. Yoga is right for everybody!

Do you like watching movies?! Do you like to talk about the movies you watch?! Then the Film Appreciation Club is for you! We will watch a film or clip and discuss it with classmates. You will be given the chance to compare it to other movies and give it a good or bad review.
Hi-Y

EMS Hi-Y is a school and community service organization. The club participates/helps with school/community events throughout the year. The Shadow program is part of Hi-Y.
Students must:
1. Complete an application form (see Mr. Baker or the main office.)
2. Write an essay about why they want to be a member. Not a sentence!
3. Pay a $5.00 non-refundable fee. Checks made to EMS Hi-Y
4. Turn in all items by the return date.
5. If selected for the club, maintain the following requirements:
To stay in the club members must maintain a 2.5 grade average, attend 75% of the meetings and participate in 50% of the service projects (most projects are NOT on school time). Any infraction of school rules that the advisors consider inappropriate, “extreme” or assignment to ISS or OSS will result in expulsion from the club.
“Shadow” is part of Hi-Y. Only Hi-Y members can apply for “Shadow”. “Shadow” members must complete an application, write an essay, maintain a 3.0 grade point average, have good attendance, and maintain unquestionable conduct and citizenship.
There is a cap of 50 members for Hi-Y. Forms must be turned in by the return date on the application form.
